The city of Alessandria
Alessandria is a city of Piedmont Region of 94.191 inhabitants, the third city as regards population after Turin and Novara; it is capital of Alessandria province. It is located in the plane between Tanaro and Bormida rivers, at the foot of Monferrato hills, at 95 mt. above sea level. Structural feature of population of Alessandria province is the low percentage of young people and the high percentage of elderly persons.Alessandriais an important railway and road junction thanks to its geographical position in the centre of the “industry triangle” of Turin, Milan, Genoa.
The main industry centres are all around Alessandria, in the provincial territory. Industrysystem of Alessandria province progressively assumed connotations more and more specialized in the different sectors of engineering industry (more than 44% of the workers if you consider also Valenza jewellery), chemical and plastic sector (11,7%) and food sector (7,6%). There are many artisan enterprises in the sectors of manufacturing, building and transports. It’s very important also trade sector both as regards traditional shops and large scale distribution.
